Significant events at Water Malaysia 2009 Minister of Energy, Green Technology & Water applauses the innovative products, services and solutions at the Water Inno Awards 2009 Kuala Lumpur, 19 May 2009 – The official tour and visit by YB Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui to the 5th water Malaysia 2009 exhibition was a significant event for exhibitors at Water Malaysia. Many were taken up with the minister’s personal visit to each of the more than 100 booths set up and exhibitors took the opportunity to share their products and services for the water industry. The one and a half hour tour saw the minister personally assessing each of the products in the booth as well commending participants of the Water Inno Awards for their time and dedication in inventing indigenous products and services for the water industry. The minister encouraged inventors to find suitable technologies that would spur the malaysian water industry to greater heights as well as curb the issue of water loss. The Water Inno Awards held for the first time at Water Malaysia 2009, saw the participation of many innovative products and services by private and government companies. All participants were awarded for their dedication and hard work. Among the winning entries in the gold category were; Fluoride Measuring Station by Prominent Fluid Controls (M) Sdn Bhd, Lestari Hot Tapping Machine by Lestari Water Services (M) Sdn Bhd and Pomb Bottom Ash – A Natural Adsorbent For Boron Removal Via Novel Adsorption – Flocculation Mechanism by Nottingham University. The Nottingham University sent in the most no of awards, all of which were winning entries in the gold, silver and bronze category. The exhibition covered a space of 2700 sqm and was participated by more than 80 exhibitors from the region; among them were new and upcoming industry players. Some of the exhibitors were; ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd, AVK Valves Manufacturing Malaysia Sdn Bhd, EBARA Pumps (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd, Jalur Cahaya Sdn Bhd, Lestari Water Services (M) Sdn Bhd, Prominent Fluid Controls (M) Sdn Bhd, Ranhill Utilities Berhad, Rotork (M) Sdn Bhd, Winston Engineering Corporation Sdn Bhd, WEIDA (M) Bhd and many others. The exhibition was a successful event with many new opportunities to be tapped into through the networking and collaborations of local and private organizations. The conference on ‘Industry Best Practices’ covered many interesting and regional issues in the water industry. Successful meetings with water industry stakeholders were held to discuss future conferences that will be participated by water players around the world. These meetings focused on the up-coming International Water Association’s Development Congress 2011, Bonn Charter’s Water Safety Plan Conference of 2010 and Water Loss Asia 2010. At the official opening ceremony of Water Malaysia 2009 and MWA annual dinner which was held later that evening, special awards were presented to Datuk Dr. Lim Keng Yaik for his terms of service. In his thank you speech, which drew laughter and applauses for his comical and informative take on the water industry. Datuk challenged water players and engineers to find alternative water resources in overcoming the shortage of water. With the encouraging
response at Water Malaysia 2009 conference and exhibition, water Malaysia
2011 conference and exhibition will take the industry a notch higher,
with more interesting and definitive events to look forward to.
